“Nottingham Forest Penalties Stir Referee Outrage: Furious Rant Emerges as Decision to Award Forest a Penalty via VAR Draws Sharp Criticism”
According to Troy Deeney, there is a need to raise the calibre of Premier League officiating after Nottingham Forest’s disputed loss to Everton, as seen by their unsuccessful penalty appeals.
The Reds were incensed after referee Anthony Taylor waved away three spot-kick calls during their 2-0 loss at Goodison Park earlier this month. Furthermore, their frustration would not have been significantly reduced by the publication of the VAR audio from the third of those occurrences.
When Ashley Young, a defender for the Toffees, challenged Callum Hudson-Odoi, Taylor determined that Young had the ball. VAR Stuart Attwell, who saw a replay and called the event “a tussle,” did not send him to his monitor to evaluate it.

Pundit Deeney thinks the choice was incorrect. Additionally, he has supported Nuno Espirito Santo, the head coach of the Reds, in his request that referees handle more decisions on the pitch rather than depending solely on VAR.
“You listen to what Howard Webb (head of the Professional Game Match Officials Board) said about improving VAR and this, that, and the other,” Deeney stated on talkSPORT. Raise the bar for officiating.
Everyone has witnessed it. There are, in my opinion, two (penalties). The one where Ash kicks the back of his foot in the first half, the Gio Reyna one, is a little dubious.
However, the referees are heading to this location where they would merely take care of one another. They don’t say something like, “Hey, you got that wrong there. Go take a look at it.”
“I hope my buddy looks after me, so I won’t really give too much, and VAR will make sure that it happens,” is the current on-field decision.
Therefore, don’t stress too much over attempting to optimise VAR performance. How many times throughout yesterday night’s Champions League match did you worry about the referee? Not even once. The VAR never intervenes. It goes well and quickly. However, we always seem to make mistakes with it.
“My personal feeling is about referees not taking decisions on the pitch,” Nuno stated last week. They should resume their previous practice before moving on to VAR, not the other way around. The game made a grave error by doing it the opposite way around.
I’m able to express my opinions and communicate with honesty. Football referees are often thought to be making too few choices on their own, which has a significant impact. They are not making their own decisions, and the issue is not improved by waiting for the VAR to step in. On the pitch, referees are in charge, and VAR should support them. We simply want to go forward.
