“Rangers’ Goalkeeper Dilemma: Loaning Out Kieran Wright Raises Eyebrows”
Rangers’ fringe goalkeeper Kieran Wright has secured a season-long loan move to Airdrie, the Scottish club confirmed on 5 July.
Although the 25-year-old has not made his senior debut for Rangers, he has gained significant experience from loan spells at Dumbarton, Partick Thistle, and Albion Rovers.
With Airdrie returning from Belfast on Friday, 5 July, Wright will join the squad next week. Rangers Should Have Sold Kieran Wright for a Transfer Fee despite Wright having joined first-team training previously, he was never close to making his senior debut.
The club should have sold the 25-year-old for a transfer fee instead of loaning him out again, as he has been with the club since 2016 without making a senior debut.
At his age, he is no longer considered a young prospect and has had multiple loan spells at lower-level clubs without breaking through.
His chances of breaking into Rangers’ first team are extremely slim. Selling him would have allowed Rangers to recoup some of their investment in his development over the years.
Additionally, it would have freed up a spot in the squad and potentially allowed the club to invest in a younger goalkeeper with more potential. Sending him out on loan again merely postpones the inevitable and fails to offer a sustainable solution for either the player or the club.
