Special General Meeting: New Structure for the Fiji Rugby Union Limited

At the Fiji Rugby Union Special General Meeting, held at the Novotel Convention Center, some exciting revelations were made.

The Fiji Rugby Union Limited, a new business that would be founded and pave the way for the organization and sport in the next 30 years and beyond, was one of the specific topics of discussion at the SGM, which was held to examine problems pertaining to the organization’s governance and structure.

According to FRU Chairman Mr. Peter Mazey, the new business will collaborate with the charity that will serve as its watchdog under the new arrangement.

Like our buildings, which include Rugby House and the High-Performance Units, “The Drua and Counter Ruck, our 49% ownership of that entity will come under the charity,” Mazey said.

The Unions will now vote on their nominees for board members under the new format; the Government, the Prime Minister, or World Rugby will no longer be able to nominate someone to the board. The goal of the new arrangement is to empower the Unions to transform sports into more commercially oriented organizations.

Mazey continued, “The High-Performance Unit will now report to the Chief Executive Officer under the new structure that was passed by the Union representatives.”

Within the following forty-five days, Fiji Rugby will conduct an Annual General Meeting to elect a new board of directors and chairman.
