Breaking News: Miami Dolphins Sign Former Detroit Lions Star from Practice Squad to Main Roster

Tim Boyle Signs With Miami Dolphins

In a move aimed at bolstering their quarterback depth, the Miami Dolphins have promoted former Detroit Lions quarterback Tim Boyle from their practice squad to the main roster.

Boyle, who joined the Dolphins in September, will now provide additional experience and stability behind starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, as well as backup Mike White.

The 29-year-old Boyle originally entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2018, signing with the Green Bay Packers after a successful collegiate career at Eastern Kentucky.

Though he spent most of his early years as a backup, Boyle’s role expanded during his time with the Lions, where he was utilized in relief of starting quarterback Jared Goff. Over the course of his career, Boyle has appeared in several NFL games, but his most significant action came in the 2021 season when he made three starts for the Lions due to injuries to Goff.

Boyle’s promotion comes at a time when the Dolphins are working to ensure they have a well-rounded quarterback room. While Tua Tagovailoa has established himself as one of the league’s top young quarterbacks, the team has also invested in White, who was brought in this offseason to add more depth behind him.

With Boyle now joining the main roster, the Dolphins are further solidifying their depth at the most critical position on the field.

Boyle’s experience as a backup quarterback could prove valuable to the Dolphins as they navigate the unpredictable nature of the NFL season.

With injuries always a concern, particularly at the quarterback position, having a player like Boyle who is familiar with a pro system and has demonstrated the ability to step in when called upon adds an extra layer of security for Miami.

The Dolphins have been one of the most exciting teams in the league this year, with Tagovailoa leading the offense alongside star wide receivers Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle. However, with the grueling nature of the NFL season, maintaining depth at every position is crucial.

Boyle’s addition to the active roster is a testament to Miami’s proactive approach, ensuring that the team is prepared for any unforeseen circumstances.

Boyle’s first opportunity to make an impact with the Dolphins could come as early as this Sunday when the team faces off against a tough opponent in Week 7.

Whether he plays a role in the game or remains a safety net for Miami, his inclusion on the main roster further bolsters the team’s versatility and readiness for the remainder of the season.
