BREAKING NEWS: Black Bears Commit Two Outstanding Players To One-Year Deals

Ottawa Black Bears Sign Owen S. Hill and Matt Duncan to One-Year Deals

The Ottawa Black Bears have made a significant move to strengthen their lineup for the upcoming season by signing forwards Owen S. Hill and Matt Duncan to one-year contracts. Both players bring a mix of grit, speed, and offensive potential that the Black Bears are hoping will bolster their roster as they aim to build on last year’s performance and establish themselves as contenders.

Owen S. Hill, a versatile forward, is known for his ability to contribute in both ends of the ice. Standing at 6’2” and weighing 200 pounds, Hill has a physical presence that complements his smooth skating and playmaking ability. He spent the previous season with the Kingston Cougars, where he tallied 18 goals and 27 assists in 52 games. Hill’s combination of size, skill, and hockey IQ has made him a sought-after player, and the Black Bears are excited about what he can bring to their team.

“Owen is a player we’ve had our eye on for some time,” said Black Bears general manager Tom McKenzie. “He has the potential to be a key contributor in our lineup. His ability to drive the play and his defensive responsibility make him a perfect fit for our system. We’re thrilled to have him join us for the upcoming season.”

Hill will likely find himself in a top-six role with the Black Bears, where his offensive instincts and puck protection skills can be fully utilized. He is also expected to contribute on the penalty kill, given his strong defensive game.

Matt Duncan, on the other hand, brings a different set of skills to the table. Known for his energy and tenacity, Duncan is a hard-nosed forward who excels in the dirty areas of the ice. He spent last season with the Sudbury Wolves, where he established himself as a relentless forechecker and a reliable bottom-six forward. Duncan recorded 10 goals and 12 assists in 48 games, but his real value comes in his physical play and willingness to sacrifice for the team.

“Matt is a player who does all the little things right,” McKenzie continued. “He brings energy every shift, finishes his checks, and isn’t afraid to block shots or do whatever it takes to help the team win. His work ethic is second to none, and we know he’s going to be a great addition to our locker room.”

The signing of Hill and Duncan gives the Black Bears more depth and flexibility heading into the season. Both players offer unique skill sets that should complement the existing core, and their one-year contracts give the team an opportunity to evaluate their long-term fit within the organization. As Ottawa looks to make a push this year, these signings may prove to be key moves that elevate the team to the next level.
