Tryouts Open for Ottawa’s New Professional Lacrosse Club

Ottawa’s lacrosse enthusiasts are in for a treat as the city welcomes its first professional lacrosse club. The newly established team is set to bring fast-paced, thrilling lacrosse action to the capital, and they are now opening tryouts for aspiring players. This marks an exciting opportunity for local athletes to showcase their skills and potentially become part of an emerging force in Canadian lacrosse.

The tryouts, which are open to all eligible players, offer an opportunity for lacrosse talent in Ottawa and surrounding regions to take their game to the professional level. Held at the state-of-the-art Carleton University Sports Complex, the selection process will take place over multiple days, beginning with preliminary evaluation sessions to gauge players’ skills, athleticism, and lacrosse IQ. Players will be put through rigorous drills that assess their shooting accuracy, ball-handling, speed, defensive skills, and teamwork capabilities.

The coaching staff for the Ottawa pro lacrosse team, led by head coach Dan Wilkinson—a seasoned coach with a background in both professional and collegiate lacrosse—will be evaluating participants throughout the tryout period. Wilkinson expressed his excitement for the club’s inaugural season and the importance of local talent in building a team that the community can connect with and support. “We want to establish a team that is not just competitive but also truly representative of the heart and spirit of Ottawa,” he said. “The tryouts are an opportunity for players to show us their passion, grit, and dedication to the sport.”

The newly-formed lacrosse club will compete in the upcoming season of the Canadian Premier Lacrosse League (CPLL), joining a roster of talented teams from across the country. With Ottawa being one of the newer cities to embrace professional lacrosse, the excitement is palpable as the team looks to carve out its identity and grow a passionate fan base. This also presents an excellent chance for players to be part of something special from the beginning—helping build a competitive team culture and connecting with a fresh community of supporters.

For those interested in trying out, registration is required ahead of time. The team has emphasized that they are looking for players with all-around skillsets, but also those who bring unique qualities—such as leadership, adaptability, and a high lacrosse IQ—that can contribute to the team’s chemistry.

Tryouts will be held from October 15th to 17th, and players are encouraged to bring their own gear and be prepared for intense sessions. This is a chance for Ottawa’s finest lacrosse players to step into the spotlight and make their mark in the professional ranks.
