Breaking News:The Decision Made By Manager Alex Cora Has Placed Red Sox Closer Kenley Jansen On Injured List.

“Red Sox Closer Kenley Jansen Out for Season with Shoulder Injury”

Red Sox closer Kenley Jansen, a four-time All-Star, has been placed on the 15-day injured list due to a sore right shoulder and will miss the final six games of the season. The team promoted right-hander Chase Shugart from Triple-A Worcester to fill his spot. Jansen, who turns 37 next week, has a 4-2 record, a 3.29 ERA, and 27 saves in 31 chances this season, his 15th in the majors. He is set to become a free agent after the World Series.

Jansen pitched a scoreless inning with a strikeout in the first game of a doubleheader against Minnesota on Sunday, but manager Alex Cora indicated after the second game that Jansen was experiencing soreness and would likely be placed on the injured list.

Jansen led the National League in saves with the Dodgers in 2017 and the Braves in 2022. He won a World Series with the Dodgers in 2020 before joining the Red Sox on a two-year contract in 2023. With 447 career saves, Jansen leads all active players and ranks fourth in MLB history.
