Sad News: Why the Steelers Remain Among the NFL’s Worst Teams
Although the Pittsburgh Steelers are among the select few teams to begin the season unbeaten, they are not a team to be taken seriously despite their perfect record through two weeks of play.
Pittsburgh’s season began against Atlanta, who were acclimating to their new head coach, Raheem Morris, and their quarterback, Kirk Cousins, who had suffered an Achilles injury that ended the previous season.
The Steelers went to Denver in Week Two to take on the Broncos and Box Nix, their rookie quarterback who struggled in his first game against Seattle.
Naturally, the youngster was having difficulties from the Pittsburgh Steelers’ defense, which is the only thing going for them. However, Pittsburgh has a major problem, which is why they won’t be a competent football team this season.
No Offense for the Pittsburgh Steelers
The Steelers have already scored a touchdown in just two weeks of play, but they struggle to move the ball when they approach the red zone.
Russell Wilson was slated to start for the Steelers in Week One, but he was sidelined by an injury, and his backup Justin Fields hasn’t yet taken over.
Fields can move the ball in the air and make plays with his legs, but the Chicago Bears sent him away this offseason because of his unreliability as a passer.
Although running backs Jaylen Warren and Najee Harris of Pittsburgh can gain some yardage, the running game is lost as soon as the Steelers have to start throwing the ball.
It’s not like Pittsburgh has played excellent defenses, which is why the Steelers can’t reach the end zone. They are only one George Pickens injury away from having the worst wide receiver room in the NFL.
Denver’s defense was among the worst in the league the previous season, while Atlanta’s defense is passable. The Steelers could have scored a few more touchdowns against both of those opponents if they had any sort of offensive weaponry.
There is a limit to how long the Pittsburgh Steelers’ defense can keep the team in the contest. When they have to play clubs like the Cowboys, Eagles, Chiefs, Ravens, and Bengals—teams known for their potent offenses—what will happen?
Sadly, the Steelers appear to be a team that is circling eight wins this season, and Pittsburgh’s game plan will not hold up against elite opponents.
