“Campbell’s Comeback: Reading’s New Wing Sensation Ready to Shine After League One Stints”
The 22-year-old forward has played eight matches for Wolves but spent most of the last two seasons on loan in League One. In 2023, he joined Wycombe Wanderers, a neighboring club, for two loan spells, with a 12-game stint at Charlton Athletic in between.
James Richings of The Bucks Free Press, a sister paper to the Reading Chronicle, gave insight into what Reading fans can expect from Campbell until January. He noted that Campbell’s first loan at Wycombe was more successful than his second. His initial spell came near the end of the Gareth Ainsworth era, and his debut against Port Vale showed his potential. Under Matt Bloomfield in late 2023, Campbell managed three goals in 17 games, including being the first player to score in the Bloomfield era during a 1-1 draw with Exeter. However, his second stint was marred by injuries, limiting him to eight appearances without completing a full match or scoring.
As for what Campbell can bring to Reading, he’s described as a classic winger who thrives on attacking, dribbling, and getting past defenders. He’s a player who excites the crowd and just needs consistent game time to show his full potential. One of his standout performances for Wycombe was in a 2-0 away win against Bristol Rovers in March 2023, where he was instrumental and even scored.
Leyton Orient, currently at the bottom of the League One table, will visit the Select Car Leasing Stadium on Saturday after a two-week break due to international matches.
