“Morgan Sanson Suffers Potential Long-Term Ankle Injury Following Nice Move”
Morgan Sanson, who left Aston Villa during the summer transfer window, has sustained what is being described as a potentially “long-term” ankle injury only months after securing a permanent move to Nice in France.
Sanson, who cost Villa up to £14 million when he arrived from Marseille in January 2021 under Dean Smith, struggled to make a significant impact in the Premier League. He found it difficult to break into the starting lineup under both Smith and Steven Gerrard, with players like John McGinn, Douglas Luiz, and Boubacar Kamara establishing themselves in the team.
The 30-year-old joined Nice for a reported £3.5 million this summer after initially impressing during a loan spell with the club last season. Before that, he had a brief loan stint with Strasbourg, which was arranged by Unai Emery shortly after his arrival in the winter of 2023.
Sanson was expected to play a key role for Nice, but just before the new Ligue 1 season began, he suffered an ankle injury during training. As a result, he missed Nice’s first three league matches of the season— a loss to Auxerre, a draw with Toulouse, and a win against Angers.
Manager Franck Haise recently provided an injury update, mentioning that Sanson is still wearing a protective boot and is expected to be out for a “mid to long-term” period. Sanson made 23 appearances for Aston Villa, scoring once in an FA Cup loss to Stevenage, but he only started six Premier League games.
