Miami Dolphins Announce 2024 Team Captains and Key Leaders
The Miami Dolphins have named eight team captains for the 2024 season. Returning captains include four offensive players: quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, fullback Alec Ingold, wide receiver Tyreek Hill, and offensive lineman Terron Armstead—all of whom were Pro Bowlers last season. On the defensive side, Jalen Ramsey, also known as “Gold Jacket,” leads a group that includes linebacker David Long Jr., defensive tackle Zach Sieler, and defensive lineman Calais Campbell. Campbell will also display the Walter Payton Man of the Year patch on his jersey.
The Dolphins parted ways with two of their 2023 captains. Christian Wilkins left via free agency, signing a $100+ million deal with the Raiders, while Xavien Howard was released due to salary cap concerns and remains unsigned. Jevon Holland, another defensive captain last year, won’t wear the “C” this season as he enters a contract year.
With the league’s oldest roster, Miami boasts plenty of experience and leadership. Campbell is set to begin his 17th NFL season, while Armstead and Hill are starting their 12th and 9th seasons, respectively, with Hill earning Pro Bowl honors every year of his career.
Sieler, the longest-tenured defensive player on Miami’s current roster, will serve as a captain for the first time. He joined the NFL from NCAA Division II and set a franchise record last season with 10 sacks as an interior lineman.
David Long Jr. will wear the captain’s badge for the first time in Miami after an impressive 2023 season, where he excelled at the linebacker position. According to Pro Football Focus, his run-defense grade of 92.6 was the highest among starting linebackers in the NFL. After receiving the news, Long immediately called his mother to share his excitement, knowing how much it meant to him.
Alec Ingold, known as a “glue-guy” and one of the most respected figures in the locker room, continues to inspire his teammates both on and off the field. In addition to his Pro Bowl-level performance, Ingold engages in charity work and other ventures, including authoring a book titled *The Seven Crucibles*. He is a voice of reason and a key motivator for the team.
Jalen Ramsey, a two-time captain during his stint with the Los Angeles Rams and one of the few Dolphins players to have won a Super Bowl, is serving as captain for the second consecutive year. Known for his exceptional talent, Ramsey recognizes the potential of this Dolphins squad.
Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who recently signed a contract extension, has now been a captain in all three seasons under head coach Mike McDaniel. This marks a significant change from his time under former coach Brian Flores, when he wasn’t named a captain at all. Tua has expressed that he feels more comfortable than ever in his career, coming off a season in which he led the NFL in passing and played in every game.
The Dolphins will kick off their 2024 season on Sunday at Hard Rock Stadium against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
