“Dolphins Part Ways with Chris Brooks After Injury Settlement”

The Miami Dolphins released running back Chris Brooks from injured reserve on Monday, making him a free agent after reaching an injury settlement.

Brooks, 24, was among three players waived/injured by the Dolphins last week, along with offensive lineman Ryan Hayes and wide receiver Braylon Sanders. After going unclaimed on waivers, all three reverted to Miami’s injured reserve list. However, the settlement removes Brooks from the roster completely.

While the Dolphins could re-sign Brooks in the future, NFL rules require a waiting period of several weeks. Meanwhile, Brooks is free to sign with any other team.

Brooks, an undrafted rookie in 2023, secured a spot on the Dolphins’ 53-man roster and played in nine games, recording 106 yards on 19 carries. Despite his solid performance during the 2024 preseason (103 yards on 17 carries), the addition of Jaylen Wright limited his chances to make the active roster.

Brooks left the Dolphins’ second preseason game after a hit placed him in concussion protocol, and he didn’t play in the team’s final preseason game.
