With Alex Valle signing on loan from Barcelona, the club is now a step closer to improving Brendan Rodgers’ squad. Valle, a Spain Under-20 left-back, will add competition for Greg Taylor on the left flank.
Celtic is also pursuing Arne Engels or Mateusz Bogusz as their next signings, depending on how negotiations progress. HITC understands that Celtic is preparing a new bid for Augsburg’s versatile player Engels, though the German club could demand £12.5 million. This would require Celtic to break their transfer record again after recently signing Adam Idah. Meanwhile, talks continue with MLS club Los Angeles FC for Bogusz, who could cost an additional £8 million. The potential signings are manageable for Celtic following Matt O’Riley’s transfer to Brighton and Hove Albion.
Though Valle has joined, and interest in Engels and Bogusz remains strong, Celtic will not be signing Tanner Tessmann. Previously linked with the club, Tessmann has now officially joined Lyon in a deal potentially worth £5 million, according to Get France Football News. Tessmann is a deep-lying playmaker similar to Callum McGregor, but Celtic’s priority is now a more attack-focused midfielder, making Engels and Bogusz appealing options.
Lyon manager Pierre Sage has compared Tessmann to Nemanja Matic, praising his courage under pressure and his ability to link play. Sage believes Tessmann will be a valuable asset for Lyon, particularly with his skill in shooting from distance.
