Rookie Quinn Ewers Poised to Hijack Tua’s Throne – Trade Rumors Swirl as Miami Eyes Desperate Rebuild Reset Before Deadline Chaos

MIAMI GARDENS, FL — The Miami Dolphins are once again at the eye of an NFL hurricane — and this one could reshape the franchise for years to come. Following a disastrous 2–7 start, the firing of long-time general manager Chris Grier, and a string of locker room tensions, sources inside the organization suggest that rookie quarterback Quinn Ewers may be on the verge of taking over from Tua Tagovailoa as the team’s starter.
Ewers, the former Texas standout and 2025 first-round pick, has been quietly waiting in the wings as Tagovailoa’s struggles mounted. Over the past month, Miami’s offense has sputtered, averaging a paltry 15.8 points per game while Tua’s turnover rate has spiked.
Several league insiders report that interim GM Marvin Saunders — installed just last week — views Ewers as “the future” and could push for an immediate switch before Miami’s Week 10 clash against the Jets.
“Things are changing fast down here,” said one team staffer who requested anonymity. “The locker room’s divided, the front office is in flux, and ownership wants results. Quinn’s looked sharp in practice, and there’s a sense that Tua’s time might be up.”
The front office shake-up began last Monday when owner Stephen Ross dismissed Grier after nearly a decade of mixed results. The move came just 18 months after Ross publicly backed Grier and head coach Mike McDaniel as the cornerstones of Miami’s long-term plan. But a 2–7 freefall, coupled with escalating cap problems and fading playoff hopes, forced the owner’s hand.
Meanwhile, trade rumors are swirling around Tagovailoa. Multiple reports suggest the Pittsburgh Steelers and New Orleans Saints have expressed interest in acquiring the former first-round pick before Tuesday’s trade deadline. Any deal, however, would be complicated by Tua’s looming contract extension and Miami’s depleted leverage.
For McDaniel, the decision looms as both tactical and existential. “Tua’s been our guy,” McDaniel said tersely in Monday’s press conference. “But we evaluate everything, every week. We want to win, and we’ll play whoever gives us the best chance to do that.”
If Ewers gets the nod, he’ll inherit a fractured offense but a golden opportunity. The 22-year-old rookie has impressed coaches with his quick release, deep-ball accuracy, and poise under pressure — traits that have some comparing him to a young Justin Herbert.
Still, for Dolphins fans weary of constant resets, the latest upheaval feels all too familiar. Whether this is the start of a new era or just another false dawn in South Beach remains to be seen — but one thing is certain: the Tua era in Miami is hanging by a thread, and the clock is ticking fast.
