Steelers Start Season with Thrilling Victory as Rodgers Shines and Boswell Seals the Deal
The Pittsburgh Steelers kicked off their season in spectacular fashion, edging out a dramatic win in a high-scoring thriller that had fans on the edge of their seats until the final whistle.
Veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers showed he still has plenty of magic left in his arm, throwing for four touchdowns, while kicker Chris Boswell delivered the dagger — a stunning 60-yard field goal in the final minutes — to secure the Steelers’ season-opening victory.
Rodgers, making his regular-season debut in black and gold, looked comfortable and confident from the opening snap. The future Hall of Famer carved up the opposing defense with precision, connecting with four different receivers for touchdowns and commanding the offense with poise under pressure. His performance reminded fans why the Steelers pursued him in the offseason — to bring stability and elite play to the quarterback position.
“I felt good out there,” Rodgers said after the game. “The guys up front gave me time, and the receivers made some great plays. It’s a great way to start the season.”
The game, however, was far from one-sided. The Steelers found themselves locked in a back-and-forth battle, exchanging scores with an opponent equally determined to spoil their home opener. The lead changed hands several times, with big plays on both sides — including a 75-yard touchdown run by the visiting team that briefly silenced the home crowd.
But Rodgers remained unfazed. In the fourth quarter, trailing by three with just under six minutes to play, he engineered a textbook drive down the field, capping it off with a touchdown pass to tight end Pat Freiermuth to retake the lead. Yet the drama wasn’t over.
The opposing team responded with a quick field goal to tie the game at 34, leaving the Steelers with just over a minute to work with. Rodgers, again showing why he’s one of the league’s most clutch performers, calmly marched the offense into field goal range.
Then came the final act: With the clock ticking down, Boswell trotted onto the field for a 60-yard attempt — the longest of his career. The stadium held its collective breath as the ball sailed through the air before splitting the uprights with room to spare. Heinz Field erupted.
“It felt great off my foot,” Boswell said. “I knew I got all of it. To be able to come through in that moment is what we work for.”
With the victory, the Steelers not only start the season 1-0 but also send a clear message: this team, led by a seasoned quarterback and backed by clutch performances, is ready to contend.
