“De Rossi Confirms Karsdorp’s Exclusion Amid Ongoing Roma Exit Speculation”
Roma coach Daniele De Rossi has confirmed that Rick Karsdorp is no longer part of his plans and is not training with the first team, marking the second time Karsdorp has been sidelined by a coach at the Stadio Olimpico, following a notable conflict with Jose Mourinho in 2022.
Why De Rossi and Mourinho Both Sidelined Karsdorp
While the two situations have their differences, there are some similarities. De Rossi handled the matter calmly, stating that Karsdorp is not included in his future plans and is not training with the squad to avoid any injury that could hinder a potential transfer away from the club.
De Rossi emphasized that the decision was his own, with minimal involvement from the club.
“The club has never asked me to exclude anyone. Sometimes, we keep players out to protect a possible transfer from being disrupted by injury,” De Rossi explained during a pre-match press conference.
“As for Rick, it was my decision. I informed the club he’s not in the plans. I don’t expect that to change. I hope he finds an opportunity elsewhere because he’s a talented player who deserves it.
“Minor technical, tactical, and behavioral factors influenced my decision, and I take full responsibility. The club supported the decision, and we’ve agreed on this course of action.”
De Rossi’s reference to “behavioral factors” echoes Mourinho’s earlier concerns.
Mourinho had criticized Karsdorp for being unprofessional after a 1-1 draw with Sassuolo in Serie A in November 2022. This led to Karsdorp being frozen out and instructed to seek a transfer in January.
However, no transfer occurred, and Karsdorp remains with Roma.
There is still a chance for change before the summer transfer window closes, as Roma continues to search for another full-back to compete with Zeki Celik.
