Just In: An “Electrifying” Rangers player set to leave Ibrox to join an English club
According to the Daily Mail, Rabbi Matondo, a useful player in Phillipe Clement’s setup last season, is expected to leave Rangers for Blackburn Rovers this summer. Matondo made 31 appearances across all competitions, scoring six goals and assisting three times.
Matondo might be let go, though, as the Belgian strategist has sought to trim the team’s size while the transfer window is still open. Regarding the 23-year-old’s circumstances, other clubs have been in contact, and it is becoming more and more likely that he will leave the Scottish Premiership.
“Destined” for Blackburn Rovers is Rabbi Matondo
Regarding Rabbi Matondo’s unclear future with the Light Blues, a Daily Mail story states that he “looks destined for Blackburn Rovers” this summer. Rangers might be able to recoup some of their excess players’ costs with a trade, since Matondo might play even less in the upcoming campaign according to players like Vaclav Cerny and Ross McCausland.
Being a part of Manchester City’s youth scheme, the Welshman first gained recognition as a gifted wide prospect there. After joining Schalke in the Bundesliga, Matondo struggled and scored just twice in 32 games for the German team. He gained a transfer from Stoke to Rangers, where he has played in more than 60 games, following a fruitful loan spell in Belgium with Cercle Brugge. In addition, Ryan Giggs called him “electrifying” and Wales has awarded him 12 caps.
Matondo was ultimately reduced to a squad player because his efforts for the Gers were insufficient to establish his reputation on the starting lineup. Clement may be the next player to go since he is eager to get rid of marginal players this summer. Blackburn Rovers are currently regarded as the front-runners to acquire Matondo. Leeds United was originally considered to be putting together an official proposal, but after closing in on Almeria’s Largie Ramazani, West Yorkshire’s enthusiasm may have waned.
Prior to the 2024–25 Championship season, the Lancashire-based team will be aiming to strengthen their attacking options after approving Sammie Szmodics’ exit to Ipswich Town earlier in the transfer window.
