Rangers Set to Sign Highly-Rated Centre Back Kaiky Fernandes After Spanish Exit, Reports Transfer Expert Fabrizio Romano

Glasgow, July 5, 2025 โ€” Rangers are closing in on the signing of Brazilian centre-back Kaiky Fernandes in a move that has sparked excitement among fans and pundits alike. The highly-rated 21-year-old, once tipped for greatness, is set for a career reboot at Ibrox after a turbulent spell in Spain.

According to renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Kaiky is expected to put pen to paper within the coming days, with only minor personal terms left to be finalised.

Romano tweeted on Friday morning: โ€œKaiky Fernandes to Rangers, here we go soon! Deal agreed in principle. Rangers taking chance on top talent after difficult time in Spain. Medical next week.

The young defender, who made waves as a teenager at Santos, was snapped up by La Liga side Almerรญa in 2022 with high hopes. However, his time in Spain failed to live up to expectations.

After being sidelined by a series of managerial changes and a lack of consistent game time, Kaiky was released by mutual consent earlier this summer โ€” an abrupt end to what was once considered a dream European move.

Interestingly, Kaiky had been offered to Rangers back in early 2024, but the Scottish club opted against pursuing the deal at that time, reportedly due to concerns over fitness and tactical adaptability.

However, new manager Pascal Jansen, who arrived at Ibrox in May, has been a long-time admirer of the Brazilian’s technical ability and athleticism.

โ€œThis is a gamble with huge upside,โ€ said former Rangers captain Barry Ferguson on Radio Clyde. โ€œKaikyโ€™s got the pedigree, the pace, and heโ€™s still so young. If Jansen can bring out his confidence again, he could become a real asset.โ€

The centre-back, who captained Brazilโ€™s U17 team and was once scouted by Barcelona and Juventus, is believed to view Rangers as the ideal platform to relaunch his European career. Sources close to the player say he is excited by the prospect of regular football and the clubโ€™s ambitions under new leadership.

Rangers are reportedly offering a three-year deal, with an option for a fourth year, structured with performance-based clauses. The deal represents a low-risk, high-reward scenario for the Scottish giants, who are looking to strengthen their defensive line ahead of a crucial UEFA Champions League qualifying campaign.

Kaiky is expected to arrive in Glasgow next week for a medical and to meet with club officials. If all goes to plan, he could join the team for their pre-season tour in the Netherlands later this month.

With this signing, Rangers not only bolster their backline but also send a clear message: they are willing to back youth and potential โ€” even when others have written it off.
