Trade News: Former Utah Jazz center was reportedly extended an offer by the Knicks.
Despite Mitchell Robinson’s depth at the position, the New York Knicks are still looking to add a center to their roster. An offer was made to Omer Yurtseven, the former center for the Utah Jazz, according to Ian Begley of SNY.
Omer received an offer from NYK. Begley stated that he would not give it any thought.
Omer Yurtseven was almost signed by the Knicks.
The Knicks scheduled a workout for Yurtseven in early July, according to reports from NBA insider Marc Stein, Begley continued. Over the course of his three NBA seasons, the seven-foot Turkish player averaged 5.0 points and 4.6 rebounds.
Because Precious Achiuwa is only 6’8″, he is likely to serve as the team’s backup big, and Julius Randle, who is also 6’8, may also get time in that capacity. The Knicks are known for their lack of size in their second unit. They will have to look to the open market for an available big unless they believe Jericho Sims can provide them with valuable minutes as a backup.
The Knicks must devise a strategy for the backup center position.
The Knicks have reportedly shown interest in both Walker Kessler of Utah and Alperen Sengun of Houston, but nothing has come of any of them. Yurtseven is just one of many players they have on their wishlist to fill the center position.
It remains to be seen if they will stick with their internal choices or try to acquire players from the market if they are unable to acquire Yurtseven. All the same, the Knicks will need to come up with a plan for the backup center position when training camp gets underway in roughly a month. We’ll have to wait and see how they handle this.
