BREAKING NEWS: Jerry Jones provides a perplexing update on the contract negotiations for CeeDee Lamb.

Following Jerry Jones’ most recent remarks on the subject, Dallas Cowboys supporters’ bewilderment and annoyance over the star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb’s contract stalemate were unlikely to subside. In an interview with reporters on Tuesday, Jones was asked if he was hopeful about finishing a deal with Lamb, who has refused to sign with the team thus far during training camp. The truncated version of his response? “I think I am,” disclosed Jon Machota of The Athletic.

“I believe I am. It doesn’t seem very encouraging when I say that, either,” Jones remarked. “The truth is, I think we’ll work things out. I have no desire to speak for him. I’m attempting not to do that. However, if we didn’t want him to be here, we wouldn’t have given him everything we have.

According to Todd Archer of ESPN, Jones added that the Cowboys are “in good shape there” and that the two parties are in “promising talks.” In summary, Jones adds that the two sides are having productive conversations and that he is hopeful about reaching a resolution and that everything will work out. In less than three weeks, Cowboys supporters can hardly be overly hopeful after learning about any of those developments.

There haven’t been many reliable updates on Lamb’s contract negotiations with the Cowboys lately, but rumors circulating in the league and media outlets suggest that a deal will be completed prior to Week 1. If so, Jones is doing an excellent job of keeping information from the public to a minimum.
