After officially committing to Minnesota, Benjamin expressed his excitement and gratitude in a series of interviews and social media posts, calling the move a “blessing” and “a dream come true.”
Originally from the West Coast, Benjamin spent the early part of his college career at Utah, where he developed under one of the most respected coaching staffs in the Pac-12. Though he didn’t get many starting opportunities with the Utes due to the depth and experience ahead of him, Benjamin showed flashes of promise in practice and limited in-game action. Standing at 6-foot-5 and weighing over 310 pounds, he possesses the physical tools and versatility to play both guard and tackle positions — traits that drew Minnesota’s attention.
“It’s a fresh start and a huge opportunity,” Benjamin said following his commitment to the Gophers. “I’m beyond grateful to the Utah program for everything they’ve done for me, but I feel like Minnesota is where I can truly grow, develop, and contribute in a meaningful way. I’m ready to be a Golden Gopher.”
Golden Gophers head coach P.J. Fleck has made it a priority to reinforce his offensive line through both recruiting and the transfer portal. With several key linemen graduating or moving on to the NFL, Benjamin’s arrival comes at a critical time. His combination of size, strength, and football IQ is expected to make him a key contender for a starting role when fall camp opens.
