“Chicago Bulls Sign Kenneth Lofton Jr., Reviving Memories of 90s Baseball Legend”

Basketball fans from the 1990s are in for a surprise from the NBA this week.

According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, the Chicago Bulls are signing free agent big man Kenneth Lofton Jr. Charania mentions that Lofton is getting a one-year contract and will have an opportunity to compete for a spot on the roster during training camp.

The announcement about Lofton, also referred to as “Kenny Lofton Jr.,” sparked a wave of jokes on social media about Chicago acquiring another Kenny Lofton.

One user tweeted, “Things got good the last time a Chicago team brought in Kenny Lofton,” referencing the baseball player.

Another tweeted, “Chicago got another Kenny Lofton.”

Kenny Lofton, the baseball player, was a six-time MLB All-Star outfielder and four-time Gold Glove winner who played for both the Chicago White Sox in 2002 and the Chicago Cubs in 2003. Though Lofton was past his prime by the time he joined the Chicago teams, the news about the Bulls’ recent signing is a nostalgic nod to the past.

Lofton Jr., 22, is not related to the baseball legend. However, he’s a powerful low-post scorer, standing at just 6-foot-7. Last season, he averaged 25.1 points and 9.5 rebounds per game in the NBA G League. Now, Lofton Jr. will aim to add to the legacy of the Lofton name in Chicago.
