Ally McCoist Reacts to Rangers Managerial Search and Sends Message to 49ers

Rangers legend Ally McCoist has voiced his concerns over the club’s prolonged search for a new manager, emphasizing the urgency of the situation as the team prepares for the upcoming season. Speaking on talkSPORT, McCoist highlighted the need for decisive action from the club’s hierarchy, especially with the anticipated takeover by 49ers Enterprises.

“The delay in appointing a new manager is worrying,” McCoist remarked. “With the Champions League qualifiers on the horizon, we need someone in place to assess the squad and make necessary preparations.”

The managerial shortlist reportedly includes Davide Ancelotti, Russell Martin, Steven Gerrard, and Brian Priske. Ancelotti, son of renowned manager Carlo Ancelotti, has emerged as a strong contender. Despite initial plans to join his father with the Brazil national team, recent developments suggest he may be leaning towards the Rangers role. Ancelotti has even approached Luka Modric about potentially joining him at Ibrox, indicating his serious intent .

McCoist acknowledged Ancelotti’s potential, stating, “While it’s a gamble given his lack of managerial experience, we’ve seen assistants step up successfully before. Ange Postecoglou’s success at Celtic is a testament to that.” He also mentioned other candidates, including former Rangers boss Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard, though he noted Lampard’s current success at Coventry City might make him less attainable .

Addressing concerns about the 49ers Enterprises’ involvement, particularly fears that Rangers could become a feeder club for Leeds United, McCoist was dismissive. “Rangers are far too big to be anyone’s feeder club,” he asserted. “The 49ers have done well with Leeds, and if they bring that level of organization and ambition here, it can only benefit us.” He emphasized the need for the new owners to back the incoming manager financially to bridge the gap with rivals Celtic .

As the managerial search reaches its final stages, with key figures like Andrew Cavenagh taking a hands-on role, McCoist’s comments underscore the importance of swift and strategic decision-making to ensure Rangers are well-positioned for the challenges ahead .
