Francisco Lindor delivered a pivotal performance on Wednesday night, launching a solo home run in the ninth inning to help the New York Mets secure a 5-1 victory over the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park. This win allowed the Mets to avoid a three-game sweep and snapped their season-long three-game losing streak.
Lindor’s homer, his 10th of the season, came off Red Sox reliever Sean Newcomb and soared over the Green Monster, extending the Mets’ lead to 5-1 in the top of the ninth inning. This blast marked the Mets’ first home run since May 13, ending a seven-game homerless stretch.
The Mets’ offense showed signs of resurgence, with Brett Baty leading the charge. Baty drove in three runs on two hits, including a two-run single in the seventh inning that broke a 1-1 tie. Juan Soto added a sacrifice fly later in the inning, pushing the lead to 4-1.
On the mound, Tylor Megill matched his career high with 10 strikeouts over 4 2/3 innings, allowing just one run. Reliever Huascar Brazobรกn earned the win with 2 1/3 scoreless innings, and Edwin Dรญaz closed out the game in the ninth.
With this victory, the Mets improved their record to 28-17 and will return home to face the defending World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers in a three-game series starting Friday. The Red Sox, now 22-23, will host the Baltimore Orioles for a four-game set beginning Thursday.
