CONFIRMED: Amid Jaylon Hutchings signing, Bears officially terminates the contract of an excellent Running back.

Bears cut running back Demetric Felton and sign defensive lineman Jaylon Hutchings.

On Sunday, exactly two weeks after signing him, the Bears waived running back Demetric Felton and added defensive tackle Jaylon Hutchings. Over the course of an incredible six seasons at Texas Tech, Hutchings started 57 games and recorded 11 sacks, 26 tackles for loss, and 108 tackles. Last season, he captained the Red Raiders and recorded three and a half sacks.

Following arthroscopic knee surgery at the end of the previous season, Hutchings was not selected in the draft this year. He was forced to miss the Independence Bowl game against Cal, which put a stop to his second-longest major college football start record of 57 straight.

The Velus Jones experiment at running back appears to be improving with Felton’s departure. In the exhibition game against the Bills on Saturday, Jones had 12 snaps to Felton’s 5. Six times for 34 yards, including a touchdown, the converted receiver ran. A week ago, the Bears started playing Jones with the running backs during practice, and they appear pleased with his development.
