“Newcastle in Pursuit of Barcelona’s Ferran Torres: Rejected Bid Spurs Potential Transfer Battle”
Newcastle United are eager to strengthen their attack before the transfer window closes and have set their sights on Barcelona winger Ferran Torres. According to a report from Fichajes, the Magpies made an initial offer of €15 million plus add-ons, but it was rejected by the Catalan club. Despite this setback, Newcastle remains interested in Torres and may come back with a better offer.
Torres joined Barcelona in the winter of 2022 for a fee of €55 million from Manchester City. Although he was expected to become a key player for the team, the 24-year-old winger has not quite lived up to expectations.
While Torres has been an important squad member and still has three years remaining on his contract, his future is uncertain following the arrival of Hansi Flick as Barcelona’s new manager. Flick does not view the Spanish international as a key part of his plans.
As a result, Barcelona is open to selling the versatile forward, who can play across the attack. The club’s financial situation has also made Torres’ potential departure appealing, as it would help raise funds for new signings.
Barcelona is seeking €30 million for Torres to recoup part of the investment they made to sign him. Newcastle United, under the guidance of Eddie Howe, is particularly interested in bringing him on board to add firepower to their attack. They believe Torres, who can also cover for Alexander Isak when needed, would be a valuable addition to their squad.
Although Newcastle’s initial offer was turned down, they are not giving up on signing Torres. The club still sees him as a more financially viable option compared to Raphinha and might return with an improved bid for the Spanish winger.
