Montreal Canadiens forward Cole Caufield has secured his future with the team, signing an eight-year contract extension valued at $62.8 million. The deal, announced on June 5, 2023, runs through the 2030–31 NHL season, reflecting the club’s commitment to building around the 22-year-old sniper.

Caufield, who was a restricted free agent, expressed his desire for a long-term commitment rather than a bridge deal. He cited his deep affection for Montreal and the organization’s direction as key factors in his decision. “I love being here… I think it puts my family in a good place as well,” Caufield shared.

In the 2022–23 season, Caufield led the Canadiens with 26 goals and 10 assists in 46 games before undergoing season-ending shoulder surgery. Despite the injury, he was ranked 11th in the NHL for goals scored at the time. Since his NHL debut in 2020, Caufield has amassed 53 goals and 31 assists in 123 games.

Caufield’s extension aligns him with captain Nick Suzuki, who signed a similar eight-year deal in the previous year. Together, they form the cornerstone of the Canadiens’ future, with general manager Kent Hughes and president Jeff Gorton now focusing on further roster development.

Reflecting on the contract, Caufield shared a heartfelt moment with his mother, who was moved to tears upon hearing the news. “They couldn’t be more proud, and I couldn’t be more thankful for what they’ve done,” he said.

With this extension, Caufield is poised to be a central figure in the Canadiens’ pursuit of a Stanley Cup, embodying the team’s commitment to youth and long-term success.
