Report: Rangers are prepared to rip up the £3 million man’s contract and allow him to walk away from Ibrox for free.

They say the Dutch are direct talkers, but Philippe Clement proves that quality works both ways. The Belgian manager of Rangers, who also coached Sam Lammers, pulled no punches in midweek when he stated that Ianis Hagi would have no trouble leaving Ibrox if he receives an offer to do so before the end of the transfer window.

During a question on Rangers’ official YouTube channel, Clement gave a rather blunt response when asked if Hagi was part of his plans for 2024–2025. “We had clearly talked with him before the pre-season already, and with his agents, about that. “We need to look at a lot of things with the club. About wages, about how many players you can have in a position, with the budget we have, and to get a budget to make transfers. “It was really clear that the idea is to sell. That’s what he wanted also. So, that’s the clear situation.”

Crystal. However, it’s as “clear” as mud which clubs would be willing to give Hagi a second chance.

Rangers may provide Ianis Hagi a free transfer from Ibrox. Manager Jose Mourinho, who once supported Tottenham Hotspur, has downplayed a move to Fenerbahce.

Fiorentina was also connected. However, they instead signed Andrea Colpani, the talisman of Monza, to a possible £13.5 million deal. Apart from that, it’s been radio silence as far as Hagi is concerned.

Time is of the essence; with just three weeks left before the September deadline, Rangers seem to be bracing themselves for the very real possibility that they won’t receive a single offer for a player who hasn’t touched a club ball since sustaining that serious knee injury two and a half years ago. Speaking of limited interest, Italian website Tuttomercatoweb reports that Hagi, who already spent two years in Florence from 2016 to 2018, will be free to leave Rangers.

In addition to saving Rangers from having to pay Hagi’s wages until July 2025, the Glasgow giants are reportedly willing to rip up the last 12 months of his contract. Furthermore, how much would Rangers really expect to earn if they sold the former Genk starlet now?

The Premier League contenders might have trouble even recovering their £3 million investment after a terrible couple of years, especially with his contract expiring. In the run-up to their first-leg Champions League third-round qualifying match against Dynamo Kiev on Tuesday, Clement made these remarks.

Even though Cantwell was taken out of the starting lineup, Hagi was not even included in the bench, with Tom Lawrence starting at number ten. While new signings Jefte and Vaclav Cerny played excellent approach football, Cyriel Dessers’ late equaliser gives Rangers a result to take back to Ibrox.
