F1 News Today: Drama Escalate At Red Bull as Horner Reveals ‘Shocking Discussions’ With Verstappen Over F1 Future

Christian Horner Confident in Verstappen’s Future with Red Bull

Red Bull team principal Christian Horner has reaffirmed his confidence in Max Verstappen’s commitment to the team, emphasizing their open communication and strong relationship amid ongoing speculation about the Dutch driver’s future.

Verstappen, a four-time Formula 1 world champion, has been at the center of numerous transfer rumors in recent months. The speculation intensified following Lewis Hamilton’s high-profile decision to leave Mercedes for Ferrari in 2025. This move set off a wave of uncertainty in the driver market, with Verstappen’s name often mentioned as a potential target for rival teams.

The uncertainty surrounding Verstappen’s future was further fueled by internal turmoil within Red Bull, particularly the controversy involving Horner after allegations were made against him by a female employee. The situation prompted renewed interest in Verstappen’s contractual status, as reports emerged of a clause in his long-term deal allowing him to leave Red Bull if Helmut Marko, the team’s long-time advisor and Verstappen’s close ally, were to depart.

This development led Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff to explore the possibility of securing Verstappen as a replacement for Hamilton. However, Wolff ultimately decided to promote junior driver Kimi Antonelli, seemingly closing that chapter of speculation. Despite this, the rumors about Verstappen’s future persist, particularly regarding a potential move to Aston Martin in 2026, coinciding with the introduction of new power unit regulations.

Aston Martin has made significant strides in recent years, investing heavily in state-of-the-art infrastructure, including a new factory, wind tunnel, and simulator. The team has also recruited high-profile personnel, most notably legendary designer Adrian Newey. These factors have fueled speculation that Verstappen could be enticed to join Aston Martin in pursuit of continued dominance under the new regulations.

Horner, however, remains unconcerned, stressing the transparency in his relationship with Verstappen. Speaking to select media, including RacingNews365, Horner reaffirmed the driver’s strong ties to Red Bull.

“Max has a very open relationship with the team,” Horner stated. “Of course, you discuss things openly, as in any form of partnership.”

He went on to praise Verstappen’s professionalism and composure amid the whirlwind of speculation last year, adding, “He’s made very clear what his position is towards the team. And, of course, you’re always going to discuss things behind closed doors. That’s normal operation.”

With four years remaining on his Red Bull contract, Verstappen’s immediate future appears secure. However, as Formula 1 evolves, the speculation surrounding one of the sport’s biggest stars is unlikely to fade anytime soon.
