Milan are struggling to agree on a fee with Monaco for Youssouf Fofana and have begun exploring Lazar Samardzic as an alternative. The Udinese player would be cheaper, but their playing styles are very different.

Milan have already started discussions with Samardzic and his representatives and are preparing a bid for him if the Fofana deal stalls. The Serbian player has been close to transferring in the last two windows, almost moving to Inter last summer and being pursued by Napoli in January, but both deals fell through. Juventus has also shown interest. Samardzic has made 97 Serie A appearances, scoring 13 goals and providing 9 assists.

Our View on Milan, Samardzic, and Fofana

The two players are so different that they can’t truly be considered alternatives. Ideally, Milan would sign both to enhance their midfield quality and depth, but they have other areas to address as well. Samardzic has attracted interest from several big clubs, but issues with personal terms and commissions have hindered deals.
