Formula 1 Extends Italian Grand Prix at Monza Through 2031
Formula 1 has confirmed that the Italian Grand Prix will remain a staple on the calendar until at least 2031, following a new six-year extension to the existing agreement. This ensures that the iconic race at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza will continue to captivate fans for years to come.
The announcement comes after a record-breaking 2024 Grand Prix, which saw 335,000 fans flock to the historic circuit over the weekend. They were treated to a thrilling race as Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc took the chequered flag, delivering a dream result for the passionate Tifosi.
Monza, often referred to as the “Temple of Speed,” has been a cornerstone of Formula 1 since the championship’s inception in 1950. The extension underscores its importance to the sport, with Stefano Domenicali, Formula 1 President and CEO, expressing his enthusiasm. “Monza is synonymous with Formula 1 and holds a special place in the hearts of fans around the world. We are thrilled to continue this incredible partnership,” Domenicali said.
The extension follows significant upgrades to the Monza circuit ahead of the 2024 race. These improvements included enhanced fan facilities, safety upgrades, and modifications to certain sections of the track to ensure it meets the highest modern standards. The enhancements have been widely praised, further cementing Monza’s reputation as a premier motorsport venue.
Angelo Sticchi Damiani, President of the Automobile Club d’Italia, also welcomed the deal. “This agreement ensures that Monza remains at the pinnacle of motorsport. The upgrades made this year are just the beginning of our commitment to delivering a world-class experience for drivers and fans alike.”
The Italian Grand Prix is one of the most prestigious events on the Formula 1 calendar, steeped in history and tradition. With its high-speed straights and challenging chicanes, the circuit offers a unique test for drivers and provides some of the most exciting racing of the season.
The news has been met with widespread approval from teams, drivers, and fans. Ferrari team principal Frédéric Vasseur said, “Monza is our home, and it’s always special to race here. Knowing that it will remain on the calendar for many years to come is fantastic for the sport and for Ferrari.”
With the future of Monza secured, Formula 1 continues to honor its heritage while looking ahead to an exciting era of growth and innovation.
