“Arsenal’s Goalkeeper Search: Bentley Bid Rejected by Wolves Amid Ramsdale Uncertainty”

Earlier this week, it was revealed that Arsenal had identified Bentley as a potential target this summer due to uncertainty surrounding the future of their current backup goalkeeper, Aaron Ramsdale.

According to The Athletic, Arsenal submitted a formal bid, which Wolves swiftly rejected. Although Wolves are open to selling Bentley, they would only consider an offer that allows them to reinvest in their squad. Currently, Arsenal’s bid falls significantly short of Wolves’ valuation. The Evening Standard reported that Arsenal’s bid was a mere £50,000.

Arsenal views 30-year-old Bentley as a third-choice goalkeeper, not as a direct replacement for Ramsdale. Ramsdale is expected to reassess his future after returning from Euro 2024 with England, having lost his place in the Arsenal team to David Raya, whose loan from Brentford was recently made permanent.

Arsenal is reportedly considering several goalkeeper targets in case Ramsdale departs, with Real Madrid’s Andriy Lunin frequently mentioned as a possible option.

According to AS, Espanyol’s Joan Garcia, who has a €25m (£21.1m) release clause, is also under consideration and has drawn interest from both Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur.

Bentley would be a more affordable option, as he is in the final year of his contract with Wolves, although there is believed to be a two-year extension clause in his current deal.
