F1 News Today: Rumor of Lando Norris sanction by the FIA is false — there is no official action

Rumor of Lando Norris sanction by the FIA is false — there is no official action

Despite recent social-media buzz claiming that the “FIA President has made it official” and sanctioned Norris over alleged cheating and slander toward Max Verstappen, the story stems from dubious online speculation — not any formal ruling.

What’s real — and what’s not

The widely shared claim that the FIA (or its President) sanctioned Norris has no supporting documentation from credible sources. The only trace of it leads to a dramatic — but entirely unverified — Facebook post.

Neither official FIA statements nor credible motorsport outlets have published any disciplinary action relating to accusations of cheating or defamation against Norris.

What is happening in reality

The tension between Norris and Verstappen remains very real: during the Las Vegas Grand Prix, a never-before-heard radio clip surfaced in which Norris reportedly shouted at his engineer: “He is cheating! Look at the gap he is making! This is not allowed!” referring to Verstappen’s formation-lap tactics.

However, experts reviewing the clip note that Verstappen’s lap-gap remained within the regulated delta — and no investigation was launched, meaning no formal ruling is expected.

Meanwhile, on-track developments are deciding the 2025 championship. After the disqualification of Norris and his teammate Oscar Piastri at the Las Vegas GP for excessive skid-block wear, the title fight is heading to a final showdown at the 2025 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

Why the “sanctioned” claim is almost certainly false

The claim appears to originate from a single unverified social-media post — not from any media outlet, team statement or official FIA document.

No mention of penalties, fines, or suspensions relating to defamation or unsporting behavior appears in FIA’s publicly accessible disciplinary records.

Given the intensity of the championship fight and scrutiny on both drivers, any formal sanction would be major news — and yet, there has been none.

What this tells us about social-media rumors in F1

This incident is a textbook example of how easily misinformation can spread during high-stakes moments in sport — especially when emotions are high. Fans may latch on to sensational claims, but without verification, such stories can distract from the real drama: the on-track battle, the engineering, and the tactics that will ultimately decide the title.

At this point, the status quo remains: no sanction, no official complaint, nothing but tension and speculation.
