Kamara Rejects Rainbow-Themed Gloves, Says Decision “Purely Personal”

NEW ORLEANS — In a moment that stirred conversation across the league but surprised few inside the Saints’ locker room, star running back Alvin Kamara reportedly declined to wear a pair of special rainbow-themed gloves offered to players ahead of Sunday’s matchup against the Atlanta Falcons.

The gloves were part of a league-supported initiative recognizing diversity and inclusion, but Kamara said the choice came down to “focus, principle, and authenticity.”

According to team staff present during equipment distribution, Kamara listened quietly as trainers explained the symbolic gesture behind the gloves. He nodded, thanked them, but ultimately opted for his usual black-and-gold pair — a decision he later said “just felt right.”

Speaking to reporters after practice, Kamara offered a calm but firm explanation. “People attach meaning to everything we do,” he said. “I get that. But for me, it’s important to stay grounded in who I am and what I’m here to do.

I love this team, I love this city, and I respect everyone’s beliefs. But I also have my own stance, and sometimes that means keeping things simple. I’m here to play football.”

When pressed on whether his decision was meant to signal anything larger, Kamara shook his head. “No message. No drama. I’m focused on my career, my teammates, and sticking to what feels true to me.”

Inside the Saints organization, reaction to Kamara’s choice appears mixed but largely understanding. One veteran offensive lineman, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said, “Alvin’s always been his own guy. People think he’s making some big statement, but honestly, he just doesn’t like changing his gear. That’s who he is.”

However, the moment didn’t escape the attention of fans and commentators. Social media lit up within hours, with debates ranging from personal expression to the responsibilities of star athletes.

While some praised Kamara for “staying true to himself,” others questioned whether declining to participate in the gesture missed an opportunity to show solidarity.

Saints head coach Ben Allen attempted to cool the conversation, emphasizing that the team supports both the league initiative and Kamara’s autonomy. “The NFL encourages players to express themselves, and that includes choosing how they participate,” Allen said. “Alvin’s a leader on this team. He’s earned respect through how he works and how he plays.”

In the midst of the chatter, Kamara remained unfazed. After wrapping up interviews, he jogged back onto the practice field for extra footwork drills — wearing the same standard gloves he’s worn for seasons.

“If people want to talk, they’ll talk,” he said with a shrug. “I’m just going to play my game.”
