BREAKING NEWS: Rangers Highly-Rated Versatile Defender Nears Long-Awaited Injury Return Ahead of Livingston Clash

Rangers Boosted as Dujon Sterling Nears Long-Awaited Return Ahead of Livingston Clash

Rangers have been handed a significant boost this week after teasing the potential return of Dujon Sterling, with the versatile defender edging closer to a first-team comeback following a prolonged spell on the sidelines.

The 26-year-old, who has been out of action for seven months with a serious Achilles injury, was spotted training with his teammates at the club’s Auchenhowie base this morningβ€”his most encouraging step yet toward full fitness.

The sight of Sterling back on the grass will come as welcome news for Philippe Clement, who has been eager to reintegrate the player into his plans after a frustrating layoff.

Two weeks ago, The Rangers Review revealed that Sterling had resumed light training as part of the final phase of his rehabilitation. Now, his presence in full-team sessions suggests he is nearing the point where he could once again be considered for match day involvement, possibly as early as this week’s clash with Livingston.

Sterling’s last competitive appearance came in April during Rangers’ Europa League quarter-final tie against Athletic Club at Ibroxβ€”a match that would ultimately mark the end of his season.

The Achilles injury sustained shortly after forced him to miss the run-in of the previous campaign and the opening stretch of the current one, denying Clement a player he had come to rely on for his versatility, dynamism, and tactical intelligence.

Before his injury, Sterling had emerged as one of the squad’s most adaptable assets, featuring at right-back, left-back, centre-half, in midfield, and even in more advanced roles when required. His physicality and ball-carrying ability brought balance to the team, and his absence has at times been glaring, particularly during periods in which Rangers have struggled with defensive consistency.

Clement acknowledged in pre-season that Sterling’s rehabilitation would β€œrequire patience,” stressing the need to avoid rushing him back too soon. But with the player now back blending into full sessions, optimism is rising within the camp that his return could come sooner rather than later.

Rangers’ upcoming Scottish Premiership meeting with Livingston could provide an ideal opportunity to ease Sterling back into competitive action, though the coaching staff are expected to take a cautious approach. Depending on his readiness, he may feature on the bench, with a more substantial role likely targeted for later fixtures.

Supporters have reacted positively on social media to the club’s update, recognising the value Sterling brings to the side at a time when squad depth and reliability remain crucial across all competitions.

While no official confirmation has been given regarding his availability for this weekend, Sterling’s presence in training is a major step forwardβ€”and a timely lift for Rangers as they look to build momentum in the weeks ahead.
