The Golden State Warriors’ start to the 2025–26 NBA season couldn’t have gone much better. Following a convincing win over the Los Angeles Clippers on Tuesday night, Stephen Curry and company have raced out to a 4–1 record, rekindling hopes that the dynasty may not be done just yet.
With Jimmy Butler fitting seamlessly alongside Curry, Draymond Green anchoring the defense, and Jonathan Kuminga showing flashes of brilliance, the Warriors once again look like legitimate championship contenders.
Still, one NBA analyst believes there’s one move that could push them from contenders to favorites — a reunion that would send shockwaves through the league.
Bleacher Report’s Andy Bailey floated a scenario that would reunite Curry with his longtime running mate and fellow “Splash Brother,” Klay Thompson.
In his proposal, the Warriors would trade forward Jonathan Kuminga to the Dallas Mavericks in exchange for Thompson and potentially a future draft pick.
“If the Warriors coaching staff is just out on the idea of Jonathan Kuminga (and last season suggests it might be), swapping him for a helpful veteran would make sense,” Bailey explained. “A Splash Brothers reunion — especially one that includes the duo playing alongside Jimmy Butler — could be a blast. The age difference in the key players here might even get Golden State a pick out of this one.”
Thompson, who signed with the Mavericks this past offseason after contract negotiations with Golden State broke down, has already established himself as a steady veteran presence in Dallas.
However, his heart has always been in the Bay Area, where he won four championships, made five All-Star appearances, and became one of the greatest three-point shooters in NBA history.
A return to Golden State would be poetic. Thompson and Curry revolutionized modern basketball with their unmatched shooting prowess, and fans around the world still revere them as one of the most iconic duos the sport has ever seen.
Of course, the move would come with risk. Thompson, now 35, is no longer the defender or high-volume scorer he once was, while Kuminga represents the Warriors’ best young asset — a 23-year-old forward still brimming with potential.
But after a tumultuous offseason that reportedly included tension between Kuminga and the coaching staff, the team may be open to exploring a change.
Would Golden State really bring back Klay for one final ride with Curry, Butler, and Green? The emotional appeal is undeniable. A final chapter for the Splash Brothers — chasing one more championship together — would not only thrill fans but also provide a storybook ending to one of the NBA’s greatest dynasties.
As Bailey put it, “It might not make the most sense on paper, but basketball isn’t just about numbers — it’s about moments. And a Curry-Thompson reunion would be one for the ages.
