Head coach Sean McDermott has officially ruled out defensive tackle Ed Oliver for the Buffalo Bills’ upcoming game against the New York Jets. Oliver suffered a significant ankle injury during Wednesday’s practice, marking a major blow to the team’s defensive line.
Oliver’s absence is a critical loss, especially after his standout performance in the Week 1 comeback victory over the Baltimore Ravenzs. He was a force on the field, contributing a crucial forced fumble and a sack that helped turn the tide of the game.
McDermott, speaking to reporters, described the injury as a “blow” to the defense but also emphasized it presents “an opportunity for somebody to step up.” This could mean increased playing time for rookie defensive tackles T.J. Sanders and Deone Walker, who are the only other healthy players at that position on the active roster.
Oliver joins a list of other key players who have been limited in practice this week, including cornerback Tre’Davious White (groin), but his status as “out” for Sunday’s game is confirmed. The Bills will need to find a way to generate pressure on Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers without one of their top defensive playmakers.
