Cyriel Dessers Issues Strong Response to Rangers Critics
Rangers striker Cyriel Dessers has delivered a clear and forthright message to the section of supporters who have doubted him since his arrival at Ibrox. The Nigerian forward, who has faced his share of criticism since joining the club, insists he remains fully focused on proving his worth and silencing those who have questioned his abilities.
Dessers arrived in Glasgow last summer with the expectation of leading the line and delivering goals in key matches. While he has had bright moments, his performances have at times been met with jeers from sections of the crowd, particularly when chances have gone begging. The 29-year-old admits he is aware of the noise surrounding his displays, but is determined not to let negativity derail his ambitions.
Speaking ahead of Rangers’ upcoming fixtures, Dessers stressed that criticism is part and parcel of playing for a club with such high demands. However, he made it clear that his focus is on working harder, scoring more goals, and helping the team fight for silverware. “At Rangers, expectations are always massive, and that’s something I embrace,” he said. “Some people will doubt you, others will support you, but I can only control what I do on the pitch. I’m here to contribute, and I’ll keep giving my all.”
The striker also pointed out that success in football often requires resilience and the ability to block out distractions. He revealed that his motivation comes from within the dressing room, where the squad and coaching staff continue to back him. “The important thing is that my teammates and manager believe in me,” Dessers continued. “We’re all working towards the same goal, and that unity matters more than outside opinions.”
Dessers’ comments come at a pivotal time in Rangers’ season, with crucial league games and European commitments ahead. Manager Russell Martin has repeatedly defended the forward, highlighting his movement, work rate, and willingness to play through physical challenges. The Nigerian international has already chipped in with important goals this season, and he remains confident that more are on the way.
While some fans may remain sceptical, Dessers is adamant that his performances will ultimately win over the doubters. “In football, actions speak louder than words,” he concluded. “If I keep working hard and scoring, the rest will take care of itself.”
The coming weeks could prove decisive for Dessers, who is eager to let his boots do the talking and cement his place as a key figure in Rangers’ push for trophies.
