Fabio Silva Set for Surprise £20m Switch to Borussia Dortmund After Rangers Stint
Former Rangers loanee Fabio Silva is on the verge of sealing a remarkable £20 million move to German giants Borussia Dortmund, in a deal that has stunned many across European football.
The Portuguese forward, who endured an underwhelming spell at Ibrox last season, is now set for a fresh start in the Bundesliga with one of Europe’s most prestigious clubs. Silva, 22, joined Rangers on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers in the January transfer window but failed to live up to expectations during his time in Glasgow. Despite showing glimpses of talent, he managed just a single goal in 16 appearances, leading many to question his long-term potential at the highest level.

However, it appears Dortmund see something in Silva that others have overlooked. The German outfit, known for nurturing young talent, have reportedly agreed a £20 million fee with Wolves for the striker’s services. Talks are said to be at an advanced stage, with only minor details left to finalise before the move becomes official.
This potential transfer marks a significant turnaround in Silva’s career. He initially burst onto the scene at FC Porto as a teenage prodigy, which led to Wolves splashing out a then club-record £35 million to bring him to the Premier League in 2020. However, the move didn’t quite work out, and Silva struggled to adapt to the physicality and pace of English football.
After a series of loan spells — including stints at Anderlecht, PSV Eindhoven, and most recently Rangers — the forward seemed to be losing his place among Europe’s top prospects. But Dortmund’s interest signals a major lifeline and suggests they believe he can rediscover the form that once made him such a hot commodity.
For Rangers, Silva’s departure won’t be met with much regret. Manager Philippe Clement had limited use for the striker towards the end of the season, preferring other options in attack. Fans were often frustrated by Silva’s lack of end product and inconsistency on the pitch.
Nonetheless, should the move to Dortmund materialise, it would provide Silva with a valuable opportunity to revive his career at a club renowned for turning potential into elite talent. If he can find his rhythm in Germany, Silva might yet fulfil the promise that once made him one of Europe’s most talked-about young strikers.
