Austin Jackson Expected to Miss Several Weeks with Leg Injury; Dolphins Hopeful for Season Opener Return

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — Miami Dolphins starting right tackle Austin Jackson is expected to miss several weeks due to a leg injury sustained during a recent practice session.

Head coach Mike McDaniel confirmed that Jackson was stepped on during a drill, an incident unrelated to the knee injury that sidelined him for the final eight games of the 2024 season.

Despite the setback, the Dolphins are optimistic that Jackson will be ready for the season opener against the Indianapolis Colts on September 7.

Jackson, entering his sixth NFL season, had been performing at a high level during training camp. McDaniel praised his progress, stating, “He had some time off, he knocked some rust off, he got back and in my opinion exceeded where he was playing before.” The Dolphins are hopeful that Jackson’s recovery will align with the team’s preparation for the upcoming season.

In response to Jackson’s injury, the Dolphins have signed veteran offensive lineman Germain Ifedi. Ifedi brings versatility to the line, having started 90 games across guard and tackle positions with the Cleveland Browns, Chicago Bears, and Seattle Seahawks. His experience will be crucial as the Dolphins adjust their offensive line in Jackson’s absence.

The Dolphins’ offensive line has faced challenges in recent seasons, with injuries to key players like Terron Armstead and Jackson affecting performance. General manager Chris Grier has emphasized the importance of bolstering the offensive line to protect quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and improve the team’s overall performance.
