Chicago Bears head coach clears up offseason speculation about former Tennessee Vols offensive lineman Darnell Wright

BREAKING: Bears Head Coach Clears the Air on Darnell Wright’s Position Heading Into 2025 Season

Chicago, IL — Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson has officially ended weeks of speculation about the future role of former Tennessee Vols offensive lineman Darnell Wright. During a press conference at the start of training camp, Johnson confirmed that Wright will remain at right tackle, putting to rest rumors of a potential move to the left side.

> “Our plan is to keep Darnell on the right side right now,” Johnson stated. “He’s developing well and that’s where we believe he can make the biggest impact this season.”

Wright, a first-round pick in 2023, started all 17 games last season at right tackle for the Bears and has quickly become a cornerstone of the offensive line. While he does have prior experience playing left tackle during his time at the University of Tennessee, the Bears seem focused on keeping continuity and allowing Wright to grow in his current role.

The speculation had swirled largely due to shifts in the Bears’ offensive line during the offseason, combined with the arrival of rookie quarterback Caleb Williams. Fans and analysts alike wondered if moving Wright to the left side would offer better protection for the team’s young franchise QB.

But Johnson made it clear: the team has other plans for the left side of the line and wants Wright to continue dominating on the right.

> “He’s done everything we’ve asked of him,” Johnson added. “We’re confident in the direction he’s heading.”

As training camp gets underway, the clarity around Wright’s role is one less question for the Bears as they prepare for a pivotal 2025 season.
