IT’S OFFICIAL: Netflix Drops Jaw-Dropping Documentary “Purdue Boilermakers Men’s Basketball Program”

July 6, 2025 | WEST LAFAYETTE, IN – Netflix has just unveiled one of its most highly anticipated sports documentaries to date: “Purdue Boilermakers Men’s Basketball Program.”

The streaming giant’s latest slam dunk is a 6-part emotional and cinematic journey through the rich, turbulent, and triumphant history of one of college basketball’s most revered programs.

Told through the voices of Purdue’s most legendary icons — including Glenn “Big Dog” Robinson, Joe Barry Carroll, E’Twaun Moore, JaJuan Johnson, and the indomitable Coach Gene Keady — the documentary delivers more than just buzzer-beaters and stat sheets. It’s a visceral experience packed with untold stories, raw emotion, and the relentless pursuit of greatness.

“This isn’t just about basketball,” says Executive Producer Ava Jameson. “It’s about legacy, pain, perseverance, and what it means to wear that black and gold jersey.”

The series opens with the program’s early years, tracing Purdue’s rise through the 20th century as a Big Ten powerhouse. From the soaring highs of Carroll’s dominance in the late ’70s — culminating in a Final Four appearance in 1980 — to the unforgettable moments of the 1994 season when Glenn Robinson captured the Naismith and Wooden Awards, every frame oozes Boilermaker pride.

One of the most emotionally charged episodes centers on the era of Coach Gene Keady, whose fierce sideline demeanor and signature comb-over became symbolic of Purdue grit.

Through intimate interviews and never-before-seen locker room footage, viewers gain insight into Keady’s complex relationship with his players and the profound impact he had on shaping young men both on and off the court.

Equally compelling is the look at the 2009–2011 seasons, led by Moore and Johnson — a duo that reignited Purdue’s national relevance.

The documentary doesn’t shy away from heartbreak either, confronting the devastating ACL injury to Robbie Hummel and how it changed the trajectory of a Final Four hopeful team.

But perhaps the most powerful thread throughout is the enduring connection between past and present — how players like Zach Edey, Jaden Ivey, and Matt Painter have continued to carry the torch, pushing Purdue back into the national spotlight.

“This was a brotherhood,” says Moore in the final episode. “We played for something bigger than ourselves. We played for that name across our chest — Purdue.”

The documentary is already generating awards buzz and rave reviews from early critics, with many calling it “one of the greatest college basketball documentaries ever made.

”Whether you’re a lifelong Boilermaker or a casual hoops fan, this series promises a riveting ride through triumph, heartbreak, and unwavering loyalty.

“Purdue Boilermakers Men’s Basketball Program” premieres July 10, exclusively on Netflix.
