FIJI Water Flying Fijians Observe Admin Day Before Australia Departure

The FIJI Water Flying Fijians took a moment away from the pitch on Sunday to honor a group often overlooked but never underappreciated — the dedicated administrative and support staff who ensure the team runs like a well-oiled machine. With final preparations underway ahead of their flight to Australia tomorrow for the upcoming Pacific Rugby Series, the squad paused for “Admin Day,” a heartfelt acknowledgment of the behind-the-scenes heroes.

Held at the team’s training base in Suva, Admin Day was part celebration, part reflection — and all gratitude. From the team managers and operations personnel to the medical staff and commercial coordinators, each department received recognition for their unwavering commitment throughout the season.

Head Coach Setareki Vunivalu described the day as a “long overdue tribute” to the unsung contributors to the team’s success.

The event featured a traditional yaqona ceremony followed by a team lunch and an appreciation circle where players personally thanked members of the support crew. Laughter filled the air as stories were shared about long travel nights, last-minute kit emergencies, and the occasional lost passport — all resolved thanks to the ever-capable hands of the admin team.

Team Manager Mereani Tuivaga, one of the few female logistics leads in Pacific rugby, was visibly moved.

> “It’s not a job for recognition, but today made us feel seen. We do this because we love the team, the sport, and our country. Moments like this just remind us why it’s worth it,” she said.

Physiotherapists and medics were also lauded for keeping the players in peak physical condition throughout a grueling training schedule. The operations team was recognized for seamlessly coordinating flights, accommodations, and training venues, while the commercial team received thanks for ensuring sponsor obligations and community engagements were met with professionalism.

With bags packed and spirits high, the Flying Fijians will board their flight to Australia early Monday morning.
