Graham Harrell Earns Spot in Texas Tech Ring of Honor
Texas Tech University has announced that former quarterback Graham Harrell will be inducted into the prestigious Texas Tech Ring of Honor, recognizing his outstanding contributions to the Red Raiders football program. Harrell, widely regarded as one of the most prolific passers in college football history, will be formally honored during the 2025 football season.
Harrell’s time at Texas Tech from 2005 to 2008 marked a golden era for the Red Raiders’ air raid offense under head coach Mike Leach. The Lubbock native finished his college career with eye-popping numbers, throwing for over 15,000 yards and 134 touchdowns, making him one of the most productive quarterbacks in NCAA history. In 2007, he led the nation in passing yards and passing touchdowns, and in 2008, he helped guide Texas Tech to an 11-2 season, which included a historic win over top-ranked Texas.
The Ring of Honor is the highest individual recognition a Texas Tech football player can receive, with Harrell now joining legendary names like Donny Anderson, E.J. Holub, and Michael Crabtreeโhis former teammate and favorite target during the 2007 and 2008 campaigns. Harrell and Crabtree formed one of the most dangerous quarterback-receiver duos in college football, culminating in the iconic game-winning touchdown pass against Texas in 2008 that is etched into Red Raiders history.
Following his college career, Harrell spent some time in the NFL with teams such as the Green Bay Packers and New York Jets before transitioning into coaching. He has since built a strong rรฉsumรฉ as an offensive coordinator, bringing the same high-octane style of football he excelled in as a player. Most recently, he served as the offensive coordinator at Purdue after previous stints at USC and North Texas.
Texas Tech Athletic Director Kirby Hocutt praised Harrellโs selection, calling him โa cornerstone of one of the most exciting periods in Texas Tech footballโ and a โtrue ambassador for Red Raider excellence.โ Harrellโs induction ceremony is expected to be one of the highlights of the 2025 season, as fans will get the chance to celebrate one of their all-time greats.
With his name soon to be enshrined at Jones AT&T Stadium, Graham Harrellโs legacy as a Red Raider is now officially etched in stone, cementing his place among the universityโs football legends.
