Seattle Mariners right-hander Logan Gilbert is set to make his return to the mound on Monday night with a start against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park. After spending nearly two months on the injured list with a right elbow flexor strain, Gilbert’s comeback is a major boost for a Seattle rotation that has struggled with consistency in recent weeks.
Gilbert, 28, last pitched for the Mariners on April 25, when he exited early in a game against the Miami Marlins due to elbow discomfort. Since then, he’s undergone a carefully managed rehab assignment with Triple-A Tacoma, making three starts and showing steady progress. In his most recent outing, Gilbert threw over 70 pitches and looked sharp, giving the Mariners confidence he’s ready to rejoin the rotation.
“We believe he’s stretched out enough to give us a solid outing,” Mariners manager Dan Wilson said on Sunday. “He’ll be on a pitch count, but he’s ready to compete.”
Before the injury, Gilbert was off to one of the best starts of his career. He carried a 2.37 ERA and 0.79 WHIP through six starts and was among the league leaders in strikeout rate. His ability to command the strike zone and mix pitches effectively has made him a cornerstone of Seattle’s staff.
The timing of Gilbert’s return couldn’t be better. The Mariners have gone just 7–14 in their last 21 games and have fallen behind in the AL West standings. The rotation, once a strength, has been less reliable without Gilbert, forcing the bullpen into extended use and impacting overall team performance.
Seattle hopes that Gilbert’s return will provide stability and momentum heading into a critical stretch of the season.
