Rangers ‘express interest’ in Jamie Vardy as potential move for Leicester legend considered

Rangers Football Club is reportedly considering a move for veteran striker Jamie Vardy, following his departure from Leicester City at the end of the 2024–25 season. The 38-year-old forward concluded his 13-year tenure with Leicester by scoring his 200th goal in his 500th appearance during a 2–0 victory over Ipswich Town on May 18, 2025.

Vardy’s illustrious career includes pivotal contributions to Leicester’s historic 2015–16 Premier League title win, an FA Cup victory in 2021, and a Community Shield triumph. Despite Leicester’s relegation in the 2024–25 season, Vardy managed to net nine league goals, demonstrating his enduring prowess on the field.

Interest in Vardy extends beyond Rangers, with clubs from Spain, Major League Soccer, and Saudi Arabia reportedly vying for his signature. Notably, Vardy previously declined a move to Saudi Arabia, citing personal reasons.

Former Rangers manager Ally McCoist revealed that he had attempted to sign Vardy from Fleetwood Town during his managerial stint but was unable to secure the necessary funds. McCoist praised Vardy’s abilities, stating, “He’s still got that pace, he’s still got that eye for goal, and he’s still got that desire.”

Under new American ownership, Rangers are reportedly keen to bolster their attacking options and view Vardy’s experience and goal-scoring capabilities as valuable assets. The club is also linked with other potential signings, indicating a proactive approach in the transfer market.

As Vardy evaluates his next career move, Rangers’ interest presents an opportunity for the striker to continue competing at a high level while bringing his wealth of experience to the Scottish Premiership. The coming weeks will be crucial in determining whether Vardy will don the Rangers jersey in the upcoming season.
