IBROX NEWS: Rangers Face Transfer Setback as 18-Goal Star Targeted in £9 Million Move

Rangers Face Transfer Setback as 18-Goal Star Targeted in £9 Million Move

Rangers‘ summer transfer plans have taken a potential hit as reports suggest a key attacking target, who notched 18 goals last season, is being pursued in a £9 million move by a rival club.

The player in question is Bojan Miovski, the Aberdeen striker who enjoyed a stellar 2024–25 campaign, netting 18 times across all competitions and establishing himself as one of the most prolific forwards in the Scottish Premiership. Rangers had been monitoring Miovski for several months, seeing him as a potential long-term solution to bolster their attacking options ahead of manager Philippe Clement’s first full season in charge.

However, according to fresh reports, the North Macedonian international has attracted serious interest from clubs outside of Scotland, with one English Championship side — believed to be Southampton — preparing a £9 million bid to lure the striker south of the border. This has dealt a significant blow to Rangers, who were reluctant to match such a high valuation and may now be forced to look elsewhere.

Miovski, 24, has impressed with his physicality, movement, and clinical finishing — attributes that would have greatly benefited Rangers, who are in need of more firepower following inconsistent returns from Cyriel Dessers and injury concerns surrounding Danilo. The Ibrox club were hoping to negotiate a deal closer to the £5–6 million range, but Aberdeen are under no pressure to sell cheaply, particularly with strong competition emerging for their star asset.

Rangers’ transfer budget this summer is expected to be modest compared to rivals, with the club prioritising smart investments over high-profile spending. As a result, they may not be in a position to enter a bidding war for Miovski, especially with English clubs able to offer both higher transfer fees and more lucrative wages.

This development represents a growing challenge for Scottish clubs trying to retain or acquire top-tier talent. With the financial might of English football continuing to lure players away, Rangers may need to act quickly and decisively in the market to avoid missing out on further targets.

Philippe Clement and the Ibrox recruitment team will now have to pivot towards alternative striker options as pre-season approaches. The Belgian manager is understood to have a list of targets in place, but losing out on Miovski could prove a costly blow if a suitable replacement is not secured swiftly.
