Stevenson, born in Glasgow in 1940, rose to prominence in the late 1950s with Rangers, quickly becoming a fan favorite for his composure, creativity, and tireless work rate in midfield. He was part of the Rangers squad that lifted multiple league titles during the 1960s, cementing his place as a legend at Ibrox.
His performances did not go unnoticed south of the border. In 1967, Stevenson made a historic move to Liverpool, where he continued to excel under the management of Bill Shankly. His arrival coincided with the clubโs push toward European prominence. Stevenson played a vital role in Liverpoolโs domestic success, helping the Reds to a league title in 1973 and contributing to their UEFA Cup triumph that same year.
Known for his leadership on and off the pitch, Stevenson earned 47 caps for the Scotland national team, captaining his country on several occasions. His calm presence and unrelenting commitment to the game made him a role model for a generation of players.
