Rangers Apologize for Past Missteps and Unveil Ambitious Ibrox Redevelopment Plans

Glasgow, May 28, 2025Rangers Football Club have issued a formal apology to supporters over delays and communication lapses related to the long-anticipated redevelopment of Ibrox Stadium. In a statement released on Tuesday, the club acknowledged the frustration felt by fans over the years and vowed to restore confidence by taking bold new steps toward the future of their iconic home.

Chairman John Bennett addressed the situation candidly, stating, “We accept that in the past there have been shortcomings in how we’ve communicated with our supporters and managed expectations regarding Ibrox’s development. For that, we are truly sorry. Our fans deserve transparency, ambition, and action — and that is what we now intend to deliver.”

The apology comes amid mounting pressure from fans who have grown increasingly concerned over postponed upgrades and lack of visible progress. Initial plans for modernization were floated several years ago but have been repeatedly delayed due to financial constraints and logistical hurdles.

To move forward, Rangers have unveiled an updated and ambitious blueprint for Ibrox’s transformation. The multi-phase project, set to begin in early 2026, will include a significant expansion of the Copland Road Stand, modernized hospitality suites, improved accessibility features, and upgraded concourse facilities. Crucially, the plans also include enhancements to Ibrox’s infrastructure to ensure compliance with UEFA standards for major European fixtures.

The redevelopment is expected to increase the stadium’s capacity by approximately 6,000 seats, taking the total to over 56,000. This would make Ibrox the second-largest football stadium in Scotland, further solidifying its status as a fortress for the Light Blues.

“We are investing not just in bricks and mortar, but in the matchday experience of every Rangers fan,” said Bennett. “This project is a cornerstone of our long-term vision for Rangers as a modern European football force.”

Funding for the redevelopment will come through a combination of private investment, commercial partnerships, and club revenue. The board confirmed that no additional burden will be placed on supporters through ticket price hikes linked directly to the construction effort.

Fan reaction to the announcement has been mixed, with many praising the renewed transparency and ambition, while others remain skeptical until tangible progress is seen. Supporters’ groups have called for regular updates and inclusion in the planning process to maintain trust.

As Rangers look to the future, the club’s leadership appears determined to ensure Ibrox not only honors its storied past but also evolves to meet the demands of a new era.
