Tennessee Football Lands Major 4-Star Linebacker Christian Gass, Edging Out Georgia and USC

Tennessee football continues its impressive recruiting momentum with the commitment of four-star linebacker Christian Gass, a top-100 national prospect in the 2025 class. The 6-foot-3, 225-pound standout from Eastside High School in Covington, Georgia, announced his decision on July 20, choosing the Volunteers over powerhouse programs Georgia and USC.

Ranked as the No. 85 overall player and the No. 6 linebacker in the 2025 class by On3, Gass brings a versatile skill set to Tennessee’s defense. His junior season stats include 68 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, two sacks, and a forced fumble. Additionally, his track background underscores his athleticism, with impressive times in the 100 and 200 meters.

Gass’s commitment marks Tennessee’s 18th pledge in the 2025 recruiting cycle and their first off-ball linebacker in the class. His decision is a testament to the genuine relationships fostered by head coach Josh Heupel and his staff. “Tennessee has been genuine with me from the beginning,” Gass told On3. “When I narrowed things down, who was genuine and who showed me love was important.”

This recruiting win over Georgia is particularly significant, as Gass hails from the Bulldogs’ home state. It’s the latest in a series of victories for Tennessee on the recruiting trail, following commitments from other top prospects like five-star offensive tackle David Sanders Jr. and four-star safety Lagonza Hayward, both of whom also chose the Vols over Georgia.

With Gass’s addition, Tennessee’s 2025 class is shaping up to be one of the nation’s best, reflecting the program’s upward trajectory under Heupel’s leadership. The Vols’ focus on building strong relationships and developing talent is resonating with recruits, positioning them as a formidable force in college football’s competitive landscape.
